In 2018, somehow, I was back to Japan and to Ishinomaki, this time as a design staff of the same company. We were volunteering for a tour of collecting fallen deer horns and making things  (monodzukuri) from it in Kinkasan Island. At the volunteer’s basecamp, I met the photographer for the first time, Mr. Mikami. At that time, little did I knew that he is a photographer. We were all busy washing, cutting and making things from the fallen deer horns that we had collected from the tour the day before. I remember Mr. Mikami made a deer horn whistle tool, and how he told us stories about its function. He said that when you whistle it in the woods, the deers from the mountain will whistle back to us. Let’s try it next time, shall we?

2018年、ひょんなことから日本に戻り、今度は同じ会社のデザインスタッフとして石巻に来ました。 私たちは金華山で落ちている鹿の角を探し、それを使ったものづくりのツアーをボランティアで開催していました。 ボランティアの拠点でカメラマンの三上さんとその時初めてお会いしました。 当時、彼が写真家であるとはほとんど知りませんでした。
前日の鹿角ツアーで集めた鹿の角を洗ったり、切ったり、物を作ったりと、みんなで大忙しでした。 三上さんが鹿の角笛という道具を作り、その機能について話してくれたのを覚えています。
森の中で口笛を吹くと、山の鹿が口笛を吹き返してくると彼は言いました。 今度試してみましょうか？
